Céline’s paintings depict women and men in ambiguous dance positions, their bodies becoming poles of migration. Like the cells that make us, they migrate back and forth amalgamating to create new forms. The movement of these bodies describes the phenomenon of attraction and repulsion. Her goal, by painting the mood of the dance, is to reach the melting point or crescendo. Contemporary dance is Céline’s main inspiration as its fluidity and movement have infinite possibilities to convey these endless bi-polar relationships.
Why Céline joined this project
Obviously helping children was my first motivation. When Bernice told me what they do to earn money to pay school fees and materials, I thought they were very brave. Additionally, I am working on the interconnectedness of people, so the exchange of portraits is an interesting advancement to my practice.
